DLF IPL 2012: Rajasthan Royals beat Kings XI Punjab by 31 runs

Rajasthan Royals can not expect better than this, they beat Kings XI Punjab in their opening match, and that too in a style. Rahul Dravid would be more than happy with the performance of its bowlers as well as batsman as Rajasthan Royals won the match by 31 runs.

The IPL 5 match was played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Friday in Jaipur. Earlier, Kings XI captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and asked RR to bat first.

Rajasthan takes complete advantage of this and scored huge 192 runs in their limited 20 overs match, with superb 98 runs by Ajinkya Rahane. He hit 16 fours and one six in his 66 balls knock.

Punjab were in the hunt of big score, they started well, but lost 4 wickets with 74 runs on the board in 10 overs. Kevon Cooper took the wicket of Adam Gilchrist on 27 runs and Paul Valthaty, Shaun Marsh, Abhishek Nayar and David Hussey all fell cheaply.

RR lost Captain Rahul Dravid and Ashok Menaria in 10th and 11th over o the match, but Rahane on the other hand kept his cool, though he fell four runs short of his IPL hundred.

Winning captain Rahul Dravid said, “Fantastic night for us, good to start this way, especially for the youngsters to do well. Rahane has worked really hard after being out of the Indian team.”

Ajinkya Rahane was adjusted as the Man-Of-The-Match. He said, “I was batting well even in practice games so wanted to continue. I believe in myself and if you are a good batsman, you will play well irrespective of the format. Ball was coming on well and I think it was a team effort.”
