Godhra Riots 2002: Kodnani gets 28-years jail, Babu Bajrangi till death

The verdict on the Godhra Riots 2002 case has been given today by the court, BJP MLA and former minister of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s government, Maya Kodnani was sentenced to 28 years in jail for her alleged involvement in the Naroda Patiya riots case.

While, the former Bajran Dal chief Babu Bajrangi, also the main accused in the killing of 97 people, has been sentenced life imprisonment till death.

Life term jail was sentenced to 30 other accused as well by the special court.

Former minister and BJP MLA, Kodnani would remain in the jail under two different Sections of the IPC, she will remains in jail for 10 years under Section 326 and 18 years under Sections 120 (B)(criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder).

Meanwhile, the Special court was headed by judge Jyotsana Yagnik has acquitted 29 other accused who killed 97 innocent people belonging to the minority community.

Maya Kodnani, three times MLA in Modi government and know for good relations with the Gujarat Chief Minsiter, is the first woman and first MLA to be sentenced in the killing of 97 people in a post-Godhra riots in 2002.

The two, Kodnani and Bajrangi were arrested and found guilty under Sections 120 (B)(criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and the trial states to announce the higher level punishment of death sentence for all the 32 accused.

The Gujarat riots 2002 case was probed by the Special Investigation Team [SIT] in which special court gave ruling today.
