Since Jan 1, 2012, large number of children’s death in GB Pant children hospital in Srinagar has been hitting, caused by staff negligibility and now govt. ordered high level action against it.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday approached Hospital and ordered an immediate inquiry to probe the actual cause of death rate in the hospital whether it resulted of negligence and inadequate facilities or not.

Appointing director of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Showkat Zargar as the inquiry officer, Jammu & Kashmir government asked him to submit the report of the children’s death within a week.

“There is a need to go into further details. However medical authorities should take all measures to minimize the deaths by taking all possible measures”, RS Chib, state medical education minister said, reduced to take any detail regarding govt. action.

He said that those bring their kids here who do not have proper communication to reach here. Mostly children who come “suffer from encephalitis and 98 to 99 % patients die. Some are born prematurely which is another reason (for death)”.

“The results may suggest that elements of parental social support or other types of positive psychosocial responses if being allowed to enter parents’ bed during night may protect against overweight, whereas types of negative psychosocial responses such as feelings of rejection when not being allowed to enter parents’ bed may lead to overweight,” Dr Olsen further added.

Seeking influential impact by the recent compulsory licensing verdict, Cipla is the biggest Indian pharmaceutical companies and on Friday, it announced to revise its price strategy that the company slashed price of the generic drug, Soranib by 80 % from Rs 28,000 to Rs 6,840.

Cipla’s price is less than Natco Company for its Bayer’s Nexavar a blockbuster cancer drug. Govt. has issued a notice for a compulsory license to Natco, due to that action Natco reduced costs around Rs 8,880 per month.

Price rate of its lung cancer drug Gestinib and a brain tumor drug Temozolamide, is also reduced by firm. Gefitinib’s price reduction is of 59 per cent from Rs 10,200 to Rs 4,250 (for 30 tablets), while Temozolamide has been cut for all three strengths.

Interacting with reporters, Y. K. Hamied, Chairman and MD, Cipla said, “This initiative of price reduction is a humanitarian approach by Cipla to support cancer patients.”

“Drugs constitute a significant proportion of the overall cost of cancer treatment and reduction in costs can greatly relieve the burden,” he further added.

Mumbai is hitting record of HINI cases as the youngest HINI case of a four-month male child from Malad found positive after tested.

Autism Society of India (ASI) on Monday organized an event to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day in which 150 autistic students, educators victims and their families together participated.

The ASI’s secretary Ruby Singh, who is also the mother of an 18-year-old autistic boy told reporters, “Autism is a spectrum disorder; while one child can do very well, another one can be just the other way around. The chief minister has made some promises, but those have to be delivered.”

Autistic children need special care and it is difficult for Parents to provide all facilities to their autism children especially education because of lack of schools, infrastructure and coping mechanisms in the city.

Nearly 23% deaths recorded from tobacco-related cancer, almost 1.2 lakh deaths in 2010, 40% deaths in men and 20% in women. In men, Lung, Oral and Stomach cancer are common while cervical and breast cancer affects mostly women.

It is said that Tobacco is the biggest killer who is responsible for major death of rural men as compared to their urban counterparts.

Researchers reportedly said, “Prevention of tobacco-related cancers and cervical cancer, and early detection of treatable cancers, can reduce cancer deaths in India, particularly in the rural areas. The substantial variation in cancer rates in India suggests other risk factors or causative agents that remain to be discovered.”

Positive H1N1 spreads in Mumbai very rapidly as three new swine flue cases come recently and make toll five of infecting people, three out of them are from one family in Mulund.

Observing threatening fact, the BMC warned private laboratories to inform the health authorities first about positive swine flu (H1N1) cases instead of contacting public as per official protocol that defined while first case of positive H1N1 came into existence in 2009.

Talking to media, Dr AA Bandiwadekar, executive health officer, BMC, said regarding this a notice will be sending to them.

“We will be making it clear to hospitals and private labs like Super Religare Laboratories (SRL) that H1N1 cases have to be informed to us before being made public,” he said.

According to protocol, the private labs that are testing positive swine flu, should submit a collective report to the BMC first.

Around this time, five H1N1 positive cases has tested in Mumbai of last week, are a male of 57 from Bandra , one from Elphinstone Road. The earlier patients are a man of 37 aged, his six year old son and mother of 57 year old.

The official of BMC ensured that antiviral drugs and meditation are giving positive infected patients and are responding well.

After contacting with incident, BMC has scrutinized atleast 150 families in Mulund for H1N1 symptoms, but no more positive cases were found.

Dismissing worried situation of H1N1 in Mumbai, Dr Bandiwadekar said, “None of the positive H1N1 cases have been hospitalised.

“No error in decriminalization of gay sex”, the Centre told Supreme Court by conveying that the High Court verdict was correct.

Finally Centre who had opposed the verdict of High Court ruled “sex between two consenting adults of the same sex in private would not be an offence” has ceased to treat gay sex as illegal.

The apex court had asked Centre to take stand on homosexuality as the govt. had changed it one by one for being highly claimed gay sex to be “immoral” and “against the social order”.

Clarifying Centre’s stand over whether gay sex between adults is illegal crime or not, Attorney general G E Vahanvati said the Centre has fully accepted the Delhi high court verdict and no error in decriminalization of gay sex. The govt. didn’t file appeal against it.

In 2009 the Delhi High Court had decriminalized gay sex between adults in private under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). That time Centre criticized Court verdict.

Vahanvati said, “Criminalization of gay sex is in violation of Fundamental Rights of homosexuals.” He added, “When we read the judgment, we learnt from it and subsequent enlightenment.”

Moreover the petition against Delhi High Court verdict decriminalizing homosexuality had been filed by anti-gay rights activists as well as political, social and religious organizations like All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Utkal Christian Council and Apostolic Churches Alliance.
