Tihar official: Afzal Guru was calm in final moments

According to the breaking news of the day, the one of the main accused of the 2001 Parliament attack, Afzal Guru was hanged till death on Saturday morning.

Officials from Tihar jail had said that Afzal Guru walked to the gallows in a peaceful and composed frame of mind.

Talking to media, an official from Tihar Jail said, “He was very peaceful and calm during the final moments. He looked very composed.”

Talking to media, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said shortly after the execution of the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant, “Afzal Guru was hanged at 8 a.m.”

Further, it is also said that Afazl Guru’s family was informed about the execution.

Afzal Guru spent around 8 years in the Tihar jail on death row over the 2001 Parliament attack case.

Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson Venu Rajamony said, “The mercy plea of 43-year-old Afzal Guru, who was sentenced to death in 2002 by a special court and later upheld by the Supreme Court in 2004, was rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee a few days back.”
