Earthquake measured in parts of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland

The breaking news came from northeast part of the country that an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale rocked Region of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland today on 22 Nov.

Further, the earthquake was felt at 8:47am in the most parts of Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, besides in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

In addition to this, the center of origin on the earthquake was located at 24.947°N, 95.226°E in Myanmar, about 130 km east of Manipur capital Imphal.

The declaration was made by the website of US Geological Survey.

According to the news covered by the media, seven northeastern states – Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur – are measured by seismologists to be the sixth most earthquake-prone belt in the world.

The regions of Assam and near by areas witnessed one of the worst earthquakes, measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale, in 1897, that claimed the lives of over 1,600 people.
