Illegal mobile phone towers to be sealed after 15 Aug

Illegal mobile phone towers established after 2010 will be sealed with the 3 civic bodies in national capital deciding to take quick action against them.

Meanwhile, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation [EDMC] has already announced to seal 250 towers that break rules. However, the drive to seal illegal towers will start after Independence Day.

Talking to media, an official from EDMC said, “The court has ordered a stay on all the cell phone towers set up till 2010 but those that mushroomed in the city afterwards will be sent notices and sealed.”

He said, “In 2010, there were about 1,000 legal towers and 700 illegal ones. The 250 towers that came up after 2010 will be sealed.”

On the other hand, the South and North Corporations announced a study to know the illegal mobile towers set up after 2010.

Further, Rajesh Gehlot, chairman, standing committee said, “Based on the report, further action will be taken. Though it is debatable whether the towers pose a health hazard or not, the illegal ones should be removed.”

The report released of then Commissioner of the unified MCD, there were 5,364 mobile phone towers in MCD area as on April 2010.Out of them, 2,412 mobile phone towers were authorized and 2,952 were illegal.
