India to launch Mars mission: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

The Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh has today announced that India plans to launch a space mission to Mars. The Prime Minister confirmed the Mars mission, saying that the country is expected to start by the end of next year.

Meanwhile, the new mission will be another courageous step by India in space programme. Earlier, India probe on the moon 3-years ago.

Talking to media, Manmohan Singh said, “Our spaceship will go near Mars and collect important scientific information.” He said, “a huge step for us in the area of science and technology.”

Manmohan Singh said this in his speech on 66th Independence Day of India.

Further, the Indian Space Research Organization [ISRO] is expected to launch the unmanned orbiter in November 2013.

Report from ISRO state, that Mars mission will bear a cost of around Rs 4-5 billions.

With this, India will be the 6th country in the world to launch a mission to the Mars after United States of America, Russia, China, Europe and Japan.

And, if the Mars mission is successful, India would be the first Asian country to complete the mission, as China and Japan had to be abandoned en route.
