A remark on Gujarat’s higher “Malnutrition” by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has blow himself in a controversy when he claimed that beauty and figure conscious Gujarati girls are the biggest reason for higher malnutrition rates which is less in tribal, rural and female population.
“Gujarat is by and large a vegetarian state. And secondly, Gujarat is also a middle-class state. The middle class is more beauty-conscious than health-conscious—that is a challenge. If a mother tells her daughter to have milk, they’ll have a fight—she’ll tell her mother, ‘I won’t drink milk. I’ll get fat,” Modi said in an interview to The Wall Street Journal, report said.
The minister also stated to removing this problem that is the biggest threat of Guajaratis’ progress. He also apology for the 2002 Gujarat riots and said to give punishment if he found guilty.
Taking opportunity of Modi’s this remark, the Congress criticized him for insulting women. The head of Congress’ Gujarat unit, Arjun Modhwadia slammed Modi and said, as per source, “This is not just a joke but is an insult to all women.”
“The most anaemic women are tribals and tell me from where are they beauty conscious? The government is not looking after them, there is very little expenditure on women,” Modhwadia further added.
