Photo ID must to travel in non-AC train

As per recent reports, now very soon it is mandatory for every rail passengers to carry a valid ID proof while traveling in non –AC reserved class in wake of solving the threaten of transferred tickets by touts on fictitious names and selling the same to passengers at a premium price.

Following the AC class passengers’ mandatory norm to carry a valid photo I-card with them, now the govt will make same applicable for non-AC sleeper class travelers.

Even, it will be implemented for passengers travelling on a Tatkal or an e-ticket issued by Railways through computerised passenger reservation system (PRS) or Internet.

It is being finalized and likely to be announced shortly, a senior Railway Ministry official told reporters. As soon as the decision is announced, the passengers will have to produce original ID proof , as and when asked for and if not, then he will be treated as “without ticket” and charged accordingly.

In list of ID proofs during journey, rail passengers can carry voter ID card, passport, PAN card, driving licence, photo identity card having serial number issued by central/state government, a valid student identity card, Aadhar card, nationalised bank passbook and credit cards.

“The policy ambit is being widened now so that every passenger in reserved class onboard a train has a valid identity card,” an official source said.
