The President of the country, Pranab Mukherjee on Friday asked the central government and the civil society to work together to make sure environment of equality for every woman, saying that, “the price of neglect will be high”.
On the 64th Republic Day address, Pranab Mukherjee’s first address as President, referred to the Delhi gang-rape and murder of the 23-years old girl in New Delhi in December last year, which resulted heavy protest near Rashtrapati Bhavan.
During President’s message on Republic day, it was clearly asked to the central government that such incidents had crushed the satisfaction and “we must ensure good governance”.
President Pranab Mukherjee on 64th Republic Day said, “Nothing should be allowed to spur cynicism, as cynicism is blind to morality. We must look deep into our conscience and find out where we have faltered. The solutions to problems have to be found through discussion and conciliation of views.”
However, the President refused to blame the young Indians for feeling outraged, he said, “Does the system offer due reward for merit?”
Pranab Mukherjee once again asked for growth and employment as the young cannot dream on an empty stomach.
He also emphasized the problem of economic growth at the time when country is goring through economic reforms.
He said, “Figures mean nothing to those who do not benefit from them.” He also pointed out and warned that in absence of development, naxalite violence, could acquire more dangerous dimensions.
