Entering in the Indian car market segment, German luxury car maker Audi has launched the most powerful diesel variant the A8 4.2 TDI Quattro in India on Friday.
The most luxurious car is the variants of the A8L that will be priced at Rs 1.75 crore to slot in between the Audi A8 4.2 FSI and the top-of-the-line A8 W12 petrol.
Based on company’s all-wheel-drive system, Quattro, the 4.2 TDI is Q7 full-size SUV powered by a 4.2-litre V8 turbo diesel engine that delivers power to all four wheels around 350 BHP and 800 Nm torque.
“The new A8 continues to lead the Audi shift into the midsized-to-large luxury vehicle segments in Model Year 2012 with a new flagship model, enhanced interior options, and standard Audi connect online car services,” the company told reporters.
The flagship model of A8, the top-of-the-line eight-speed gearbox will have ABS safety attributes, airbags and traction control, accelerating from 0 to 100 km in 5.6 seconds with high 250kph speed control.
Reports said, Audi India has also launch a showroom in Mumbai, targeting sale volume of 8000 units this year. Recently, Audi has launched three variants of the A8L in India, the base 3.0 TDI quattro, the mid-level 4.2 FSI petrol and the range topping 6.3 W12 quattro. It has said that new variant, 4.2 TDI quattro will be placed between the 4.2 FSI and the 6.3 W12.
Landing in CBU segment, the most costly Audi’s sedan model is the one among current market availabilities that fulfill the 350bhp AWD specs- four zone auto AC, head up display unit, dynamic steering, Bang and Olufsen sound system and two piece panoramic sunroofs.
Audi has direct competition with BMW, the No.1 car maker, German stands second after it and also will compete against Mercedes S-Class, 7-Class.
