According to latest world news, the former Maldivian President Mohammed Nasheed was arrested by the Maldivian police on Tuesday, causing fresh uproar and protests in the capital Male.
The information was given to media by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) spokesperson Hameed Abdul Gafoor.
Talking to media, Hameed Abdul Gafoor said that the former President was arrested outside his house by 20 policemen, who took him away without any explanation.
Gafoor said, “They just took him. We do not know why and we do not know where he has been taken.”
Further, MDP Party member Shauna Aminath told media that Mr. Nasheed was arrested due to latest summons issued by a court, however, said that his lawyers had rushed to the spot for explanation.
He said, “The party is shocked as we do not know the real reason behind his arrest. We do not even know where he is taken. The government has properly planned this just before the elections.”
The country’s government officials told media that Nasheed was arrested after a court issued a 3rd arrest warrant against him on Tuesday.
It is said, “He is charged with ordering the military to unconstitutionally detain the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed.”
Though, his party has said that this is a politically inspired arrest to ensure he can’t compete for September 7 Presidential polls.
