J&K avalanche: 6 soldiers killed, 1 missing in Siachen

According to latest news, six Indian Army soldiers were killed and one of them is missing in an avalanche that struck the Siachen Glacier early on Sunday.

However, the tragedy took place in Sub-sector Hanief of the Glacier when soldiers of Indian Army were moving between posts at 19,000 feet. A rescue team has been sent to the location to find missing soldiers.

Though, a medium danger avalanche warning was on Sunday issued for area close to Line of Control in Kashmir. In fact, the avalanche warning was also issued for north Kashmir Ski resort of Gulmarg, Jawahar Tunnel in south Kashmir and Banihal town.

Kashmir valley had experienced moderate to heavy snowfall, mostly in hilly location, in the past few weeks, which forced closure of several roads such as Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

The location Siachen glacier is known as the world’s highest and coldest battlefield. Mostly Indian and Pakistani army soldiers were killed in the avalanche.
