Vijay Kumar, the 26-year-old Subedar in the Indian Army with Gorkha regiment, is known to control the number of times he blinks his eyes.
Vijay Kumar is not the most recognized face in the Indian shooting team, but he created history at the London Olympics 2012, winning silver medal.
Vijay Kumar made India proud in the 25m rapid fire pistol event at the 2012 London Olympics. After winning the silver medal, he said, “We need to control our nervous system.”
Earlier, he was ranked fourth in the four-second rapid fire finals on Friday. However, later he fired a perfect shot with 5 on 5 target, and got 30 even as the field thinned down in the eliminations.
Later on, Vijay Kumar was just four shots behind the Cuban Leurius Pupo.
In finals, Cuba’s Leurius Pupo fired three straight 5 of 5 targets. Vijay also did the same, and the score finally stood at a series of 5, 4, 4,3 (for the first mandatory 20 shots), followed by three 4s, and that brought India’s first Silver medal in 2012 Olympics.
Cuba’s Leurius Pupo took the gold medal.
