Pak SC orders arrest of PM Ashraf

Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered to arrest of the Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in connection with Rs 22 billion corruption scam.

Ashraf’s arrest will have ordered to be made within 24 hours, as per SC order to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Reports said that along with Pakistan PM, 15 more have named to accused in Rs 22 billion Rental Power Projects (RPP) scam including three ex-Cabinet ministers and four former secretaries of government departments.

Nab has asked to fix criminal liability and submit a report tomorrow, it further added.

SC surprising move has come during amid controversial row between Pakistan government and the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

As per media reports, a strong and supportive protest called by Tahir-ul-Qadri, the Pakistani-Canadian cleric-politician who is believed to be backed by the military, is also major cause of PM arrest.

Along thousands of followers in the heart of the capital Islamabad, Qadri protested with demand of quitting Pakistan government and to dissolve the National and Provincial Assemblies, otherwise ready to face “people’s parliament”.

Mr. Ashraf is accused of receive bribes and commission in 2008 during his term of being then the federal minister for water and power.

PM has accused in various corruptional cases including power projects, television channels reported, plunging Pakistan govt into fresh political turmoil.
