According to news, the President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the the 27th Surajkund International Crafts Mela on Saturday. The Craft Mela is a 15-day annual cultural extravaganza showcasing India’s rich handicrafts, cuisine and culture, started on Friday on a vibrant note.
Though, it opened on Friday, but the official opening will be conducted by the President on Saturday.
The Surajkund International Crafts Mela presents the archaeological heritage of Karnataka, the traditional dance of Yakshagana with display of finest handicrafts and handlooms from the country and outside the country.
It was first started in 1987 and from then onwards it is being celebrated every year during the spring season of starting from February 1 to 15, at Surajkund located in Haryana.
The craft mela was basically planned to give boost the traditional art of handloom and handicraft of India.
It is said that the Traditional craftsman (artists, painters, weavers and sculptors) from all parts of the country will take part in this annual celebration.
This event has been a great success year after year and helps to promote the traditional art at an International level.
“The celebration of the simple joys of rural life and reverence of epic traditions all mingle well. All these colourful events are also presented before the audience in the open-air theatre named Natyashala,” a statement from Haryana Tourism said.
