Suryanelli Gang-Rape Case: Fresh hearing to begin today

In a wake to proceed, a fresh hearing in the Suryanelli 1996 Gangrape case is to begin today in the Kerala High Court.

The bail pleas of 36 accused has to be filled while out of that only 14 will be heard by bench of justice today as per media information.

Twist has come in Suryanelli gangrape case when Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien, against whom the victim had lodged the complaint, has been declared out of the list of accused by the court.

Suryanelli gangrape case relates to a 16-year-old school girl of Suryanelli in Idukki district who was allegedly abducted and gang raped by 36 persons that took her into various places and exploited in 1996.

The Kerala High Court had acquitted the all 35 accused and found only one guilty.

Since then, the case was pending in apex court, but recent came into light when the victim had filed a police complaint revealed that Kurien listed as an accused in the case.
