Rio to host Laureus World Sports Awards

Rio has been named as the host city of the Laureus World Sports Awards for 2013 and 2014, the Laureus Academy announced.

The globally televised event, considered the Oscars of international sports, will give Rio the chance to showcase itself to the sporting world ahead of the 2014 football World Cup and 2016 Olympics, reports Xinhua.

It will be the first time the event has been held in the southern hemisphere since it began in 2000. Read more

Menezes to keep same squad for China friendly

Brazil coach Mano Menezes has ruled out making major changes to his team for Monday’s international friendly against China in Recife city.

The match follows Brazil’s unimpressive 1-0 victory in Sao Paulo Friday over South Africa, who are ranked 62 places below them by governing body FIFA, reports Xinhua.

FIFA’s regional development inaugurated in Delhi

The regional office has been shifted to Delhi from Colombo.
