ManmohanSingh 300x260 Cabinet finally brings 7% hike in DA of government employeesOver four million workers of central government will go home with a growth pay packet from now, as the union cabinet has yesterday announced a growth in the dearness allowance [DA] to 65 percent of the basic salary from the present 58 percent with immediate effect from 1 January 2012.

The growth of about 7 percent from the existing rates will also be applicable to central government pensioners.

Meanwhile, the hike in the DA will cost the central government an extra burden of Rs 7,474.53 crore per year, as per the decision taken at the cabinet meeting headed by the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh in New Delhi. Read more

Government lost Rs10.67 lakh crore by not auctioning coal

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) deals bad allegations indirectly that it was behind the leakage of the 110-page draft report of the coal ministry’s decision to approved 155 coal acreages without bidding for allocation of coal blocks between 2006 and 2009 that led to lose of Rs 10.67 lakh crore “revenues” to private and public firms.

Clarifying the denial report called “preliminary observations” that refused to be as per an initial draft, the CAG wrote a letter to the Prime Minister saying,” In the extant case the details being brought out were observations which are under discussion at a very preliminary stage and do not even constitute our pre-final draft and hence are exceedingly misleading…”

It said, the news report was “exceedingly misleading” and calling for investigation to know the source of the leak. Read more

According to Mr. Hazare, there are more than half of the ministers in the UPA government who wants to pass a strong Lokpal Bill in Parliament.

While asking about those “good people”, he refused to name the people as it would put them in trouble, but his Friday statement speaks a lot.

On Friday, he said, “Manmohan Singh’s mind is youthful, so he is young. Rahul Gandhi is not young.” Read more
