Piramal acquires more 5.5% stake in Vodafone

Piramal firm already bought 5.5% stake of Vodafone for Rs2,900 crore in August last year and its further plan to buy will values Vodafone’s India business at Rs54,675 crore.

Fiat inks deal to supply diesel engines to Maruti Suzuki

Italian car-manufacturer Fiat and Japanese car-developer Suzuki Motor Corporation has recently announced that the two companies have inked an agreement to supply Fiat diesel engines to India’s largest car company Maruti Suzuki.

In a joint statement released by the two companies, “Fiat India Automobiles Ltd (FIAL) will supply up to one lakh 1.3 litre MultiJet 75hp SDE engines per year to Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) starting from January 2012 for a period of three years.”

The joint note issued saying that the engine will be installed on Suzuki labeled cars manufactured in India by MSIL for the local market. Read more

The range of Vespa scooters as parent Piaggio unveiled its range of scooters at the Expo, sport 125cc engines and will be available in the market from March.

However Piaggio licensed the production of Vespa scooters to Bajaj Auto Ltd from more than four decade ago.

Although the joint venture deed between both ended in 1971, the company partnered with LML Motors in 1983 as like Bajaj Auto, to make and sell scooters in India.

And this venture also exited in 1999, when LML acquired Piaggio’s stake.
