Telangana Protest: Hyderabad tenses, TRS, JAC arrest

Hyderabad’s situation tensed on Sunday when Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) defied Police ban to stage a protest following its demand for a separate state of Telangana.

Police have arrested son of TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and TRS legislator K. Tarakarama Rao and his supporters, reaching the city from various parts of Telangana, reports said.

Demanding for statehood to Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi supporters gathered near the office of Telangana JAC to proceed towards Indira Park, seeking to launch 36-hour protest ‘Samara Deeksha’, despite police refusal for permission.

However, all routes lead to India Park has been sealed by police, entry of protesters have restricted by the paramilitary forces which deployed to prevent any violent incident.

Police have taken several leaders of Telangana JAC into custody from Warangal, Nizamabad, Medak, Karimnagar, Adilabad and other districts when they were heading for Hyderabad, including TRS politburo member Swami Goud with his supporter.

Over dozen of Osmania University students have also arrested as they tried to march to Raj Bhavan, demadning Governor E S L Narasimhan’s resignation.

Last month Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde promised to accept TRS demand of on Telangana issue. All TRS supports demanded Govt to make an announcement for statehood to Telangana as per its promise by January 28.

“The government is allowing meetings in Seemandhra (Rayalaseema and Andhra) but suppressing even peaceful protest in Telangana,” Party leader E. Rajender told reporters, alleging government to stop peaceful protest, arresting thousands of Telangana activists.
