Two MI-17 choppers collide in Gujarat, 9 killed

According to latest reports, 9 personnel of the Indian Air Force [IAF] were killed and one injured when two MI-17 choppers collided mid-air near Air Force base in Jamnagar in Gujarat.

It is further said in reports that the incident took place near Sarmat village, 16km from Jamnager city on Khambhalia highway.

Later, Group Capt MG Mehta told media that 9 Air Force personnel died in the collision and it occurred around 12:30pm.

Reports have said that it includes 4 pilots and co-pilots and sir warriors.

Sources said that the chopper touched the electric wires and soon catches fire.

Both the choppers were MI-17 and were on training exercise. The local police and Air Force soon reached the spot.

Jamnagar district collector Sndeep Kumar said, “We have reports that some persons have died in the accident. The entire area has now been cordoned off by the police, air force and civilian administration.”

However, no further details were issued to media by now, and the Indian Air Force will provide the detaisl as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force has a big base camp in Jamnagar, situated in the Western coast.
