Popes former butler 150x150 ‘Vatileaks’ scandal: Popes former butler on trial In yet tragedy, Pope Benedict XVI’s former butler, Paolo Gabriele pushed up by trial in the Vatican on Saturday on charges of aggravated theft which he alleged to expose corruption at the Holy See.

Facing Vatican tribunal having no plea for trial, 46 years old, Paolo Gabriele accused in theft and leak confidential as well as personal documents of pontiff to the media, claiming to expose corruption at the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church.

Moreover, trial of one of the worst crises of Pope Benedict’s 7 years papacy adjourned Tuesday as per the court. Now Gabriele will interrogate with the president of the Vatican City tribunal in court on Tuesday.

During session period of court over ‘Vatileaks’ scandal, major sensitive evidence came before, including 82 boxes of material having compromising documents stolen by the Pope’s butler, found during probe of a Vatican prosecutor and Vatican police of his apartment and other addresses, reports said.

His fellow defendant, Claudio Sciarpelletti would also be under charge of help him for abetting a crime, the court ruled.

Mr Gabriele was arrested on May 23 on charge of theft and passing papal correspondence to an Italian investigative journalist in May.

However, if he admitted and found guilty, he would be in an Italian jail for four years or could be pardoned by the Pope as he was the Pope’s trusted servant.
