The Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani seems to be paying a high price in form of his parliamentary post for getting refused from reopening the grafts cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
Last Monday, The Pakistan’s highest court Supreme Court issued a notice to Gilani to appear on 19 January for defining his reason of failing to re processing the money laundry cases against President.
In 2003 a Money laundering case of millions of dollars from Swiss companies was charged against Mr Zardari and his late wife, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and when amnesty granted to them in 2007 by President Pervez Musharraf, and then Zardari’s government requested Swiss authorities to drop down the case.
However in2009 Court ordered for re access the cases but govt. failed to do same. At recent time , again Supreme Court issued a notice to Gilani for reopening cases against Zardari and this time if Gilani not did the same then he would lost his post or may be go to prison for six months if he convicts.
“If the court concludes that he’s in contempt, then they can take action against him. The maximum sentence is six months in prison,” Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui, a former chief justice of Pakistan, said.
Aitzaz Ahsan, the most prominent respected lawyers in Pakistan, is attending Gilani’s case as his lawyer clarified that Gilani could failed his Prime Minister status if he found convicted. He defined that Gilani has no problem to letter to the Swiss authorities, but as a lawyer he would tried to convince the court in favour of the prime minister.
Meanwhile facing a tough situation by the Pakistani People Party the corruption cases and its memo for help US to control army coup, also broke out the fire and generates much controversy between judiciary and military govt.
