Afzal Guru hanged in Tihar Jail, curfew imposed

As per breaking news, the mastermind of 2001 Parliament attack, Afzal Guru was hanged to death at the Tihar Jail in New Delhi on Saturday morning.

Hanging of Afzal was in a top-secret operation on Saturday morning, source said.

However, still there is no official confirmation of the reports.

The decision took as earlier as possible without wasting time after President Pranab Mukherjee has rejected the mercy plea of Guru, set him for hanging.

The situation is sensitive in Sopore, Kashmir, hometown of terrorist Guru following news that the terrorist would be hanged soon, reports said.

It further added that J&K CM Omar Abdullah warned that his execution could have serious repercussions in his state.

However this was the third plea which rejected by Mukhejree after 26/11 attack convict Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab and Saibanna Ningappa Natikar, who was sentenced to death for murdering his wife and daughter.

Afzal Guru, the terrorist who attacked Parliament in 2001 had awarded death sentence by Supreme Court in 2004, since then his hanging had been delayed or suspended following his mercy plea.

The attack was jointly conducted by the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LET) and the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JEM), a total of 5 terrorists who had fired at the Parliament premises, killing nine victims including police constable and security personnel.
