Black out again: hit eastern region

Hitting total black out, three electricity grids failure connected to the 21 states and the national capital triggered worse situation for more than 60 crore people in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Assam.

Much impact has on train services in India’s six railway zones and in eastern, around 30 trains express and over 48 goods trains, 200 miners were struck at various places and waiting for restoration of power supply, source of ECR, as East Center Railway source.

Eastern-Northeastern regional grids collapsed affected several train services and created a worse situation for long distance passengers.

It was the second day power crisis hit eastern region and shockingly, for the first time that the Northern Grid, Eastern Grid and North-Eastern Grid, collapsed together, suffering country total black out.

This time unprecedented situation with power collapsed started in the Eastern Grid. Source said, the optimal transmission frequency for any grid is 48 hertz, but the number dropped to 47.50 in the Eastern Grid and 47.69 in the Northern Grid.

Situation in Bihar put under an emergency as without power the work was totally grounded in the offices. However, the West Bengal government called a holiday for officials who come by travel.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said to restore the power, it may take 10-12 hours and transport services were being made for people to return home.

“The eastern grid collapsed at 1:00 PM. It is a catastrophic power disaster. There is no power in any district in the state,” Power Minister Manish Gupta told reporters, while failed to define cause of power crisis.

Much pressure is on the Power Ministry which trying to normalize the situation as soon as possible as investigation has started over its causes. It has been said that, this again black out can happen by excess withdrawal of power illegally from the grid.
