Cabinet approves Bill that allows action against bureaucrats delaying services

As per latest political news, the Cabinet has on Thursday given an official approval to a bill providing for time-bound delivery of services.

Now, with the approval of this law, bureaucrats will now face difficulties or penalty in delay in dispensing services such as pensions, passports, caste certificates, ration cards, tax refunds and police procedures.

The new law states that delay in offering all such services can result in a fine for the bureaucrats concerned.

Despite the in-principle approval, the Cabinet is still not sure that which ministry will impose the penalty if bureaucrats will found guilty for not performing his/her duties effectively.

It is said that, Ministries like Law, Home and the department of post and telegraph will fine-tune this. This bill has been presented in the Cabinet 15 months after it was introduced in the Lok Sabha in 2011.
