JBT scam: Ex-Haryana CM Chautala, 54 others convicted

Following illegal recruitment of over 3000 junior basic trained (JBT) teachers in Haryana, Delhi special CBI court has convicted Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala, his MLA son Ajay Chautala and 53 others.

Reports said that, all accused have been in judicial custody.

The Special CBI Judge Vinod Kumar’s verdict over the case came after hearing arguments of CBI and the defence counsel, it further added.
Moreover, 22 January is fixed for announcement of the quantum of the sentence.

The special CBI court had on December 17 reserved its order and asked all the accused persons to remain present in the court on January 16.

Chautala, his son and 53 others, including IAS officers Vidya Dhar and Sanjiv Kumar, Sher Singh Badshami, political advisor to the then Haryana chief minister have charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).

On basis of prima facie evidence, CBI had filled a chargesheet against accused on June 6, 2008 in connection with the scam over illegal appointment of 3,206 junior basic teachers in the state during 1999-2000.
