Microsoft Launches Surface Tablet to Rival iPad

Being a biggest hardware company Microsoft on Monday entered into tablet market with its newest a tablet called Surface as a toughest challenger for Apple’s iPad.

Surface that comes with a keyboard is a big rival for iPad, because it has similar features designed but additional 10.6-inch screen that is touch-friendly Windows 8 operating system.

Launching its first tablet computer in this month, the world’s largest hardware maker company plans to make a big impact over the market to hike demand of customers.

Addressing a press conference, Microsoft told reporters that smallest Surface tablet is 9.3 millimeters thick and weighs 1.5 pounds, which is similar to Apple’s iPad, at 9.4 millimeters thick and 1.44 pounds.

The specialiality of Surface is that it has a fold-out built-in kickstand and magnetic cover that becomes a touch keyboard. It will be available in two versions – one run on traditional Intel Corp chips widely used in most PCs, and another running Windows RT will be powered by ARM Holdings PLC chips used in cellphones and tablets, according to source.

There is no detail regarding who manufactured these models and when they come into market for purchase, even no detail about its connectivity either to cellular data networking or Wi-Fi, but the first Surface models will arrive when Windows 8 is generally available, expected to be in the second half of the year, according to a company statement.

Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer while unveiled tablet told reporters, “The Surface is a PC, the Surface is a tablet and the Surface is something new that we think people will really love.”

Price of Smallest Surface will “comparable” as Microsoft sells the tablets itself at Microsoft’s handful of retail stores, also through some online channels, a source told media persons while taking about price tag.

All in all, launching its first smallest tablet computer in the market, there might be a struggling move in journey of Microsoft. It will have to make well hardware and software work together, so that the market monopolist Apple that grab the sales of low-end Windows laptops, increasingly attract business customers, will defeated.
