One miss in life pains for whole and this proves to be true with the 82-year-old, legendary athlete Milkha Singh whose last but most valuable desire to see an Indian win an Olympic gold in athletics.
“My last desire before I leave this world is that I want an Indian boy or a girl win an Olympic gold medal for the country and for my sake. I failed to win it in Rome Olympics in 1960,” Milkha Singh told reporters.
It is the Milkha Singh who makes the history by winning an individual athletics gold in the Commonwealth Games, and still no Indian has crossed his record, won an Olympic medal in athletics. It is one of the golden symbols of the Indian history.
In 1958 and 1962 Asian Games, the athlete won gold medal, but sad of missing being failed to get an Olympic medal five decades ago. It was not happened with the athlete, even since India Independence, other athlete Singh Randhawa in 1964, Shri Ram Singh in 1976, PT Usha in1984 and Anju George had also reached the finals but missed to win any medal.
“Athletics is considered number one sport in the world, be it Olympics, Commonwealth or Asian Games. But since India gained Independence, only five reached the finals in athletics event and all failed to win a medal, myself including,” Milkha added in his statement.
Being sad for this and expressing his last desire in the world, the athlete said, “After 2-3 years, I may be no more. Just a few days back my dear friend Dara Singh, who was like a brother to me, passed away. Whether I will live for next few years more, it is up to God. I want to see an Indian win an Olympic gold in athletics,” as per source.
This time, everyone wants to be a big hit in the upcoming London Olympics, and it is better known by Milkha who hoped from Krishna Poonia not gold but may be a bronze medal in athletes.
