Norway child row: Indian couple convicted; father 18 months, mother 15 jail term

According to latest news, the Indian couple facing criminal charges of child abuse was convicted on Tuesday by a Oslo court. The court orders 18-months jail term to the father and 15-months jail term sentenced to the mother.

It is said in reports that Chandrasekhar Vallabhaneni, a software professional from Andhra Pradesh, and his wife Anupama, who were arrested by the police in November this year, were convicted for repeated abuse of their child/children by threats, cruelty or other wrong.

The trial had comes to a conclusion of a sentence of 18 months for the father and 15 months for the mother.

The Indian officials in the ministry of external affairs said, “Our embassy in Norway has been in touch with the Indian nationals involved in the case.”

It said, “Even during the course of their detention the Consular Officer has been in touch with them. We will continue to render necessary consular assistance and will be in touch with their lawyer.”

In the meantime, Head of Prosecution, Oslo Police Department, Kurt Lir, while justifying the arrest and charges said, “there were burn marks and scars on the body of the child, who has also been beaten by the belt.”
