Omar backs Kashmir’s girls band, FIR files against online abusers

In support of Kashmir’s all-girls music band, the Cyber Crime Cell (CCC) of Srinagar district police has filed an FIR against online abusers who sent death threats and messages to them on Facebook profiles, sources said.

The action was in active immediately after Srinagar Chief Minister Omar Abdullah promised a probe in support of girls band‘Pragaash’ on Twitter after they forced to stop music activities following a fatwa issued against them from the J&K Grand Mufti.

As per sources, initially Police had ignored the threats but Mr. Abdullah’s tweets pressure dtham to act on the issue soon.

Now the police with IT officials are investigating the matter deeply, tracking the activities of some already identified suspects such as e-urchins who are threatening the members of the musical band through Face Book and Twitter, it further added.

Kashmir valley put in outrage at online threats against the first girl rock band, Kashmiris ,activists and also artists condemning the fatwa against them.

Condemning the fatwa as against spirit of Kashmiriyat, Mr.Abdullah also promised to back with full security to the members of the state’s first girl band if they wanted to pursue singing.

Even the opposition party People’s Democratic Party’s Mehbooba Mufti too slammed the fatwa and asked State government to take relevant action, reports said.

It has also said that the trio band members although have quit from live performance but would continue to pursue their passion- music.

The girls of band on Monday call to quit following a fatwa against them by the valley’s Grand Mufti, Bashir-ud-Din, who accused them of breaking Islam moral values and must be in a veil at all times.
