Pakistan PM Yousuf Raza Gilani appeals against contempt charge

Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani who was charged by the Supreme Court for failing to reopen the corruption cases against Pakistani president, Asif Ali Zardari, now appeals against contempt charge.

The Supreme Court ordered Gilani last week to ask Swiss authorities that contact with govt. to reopen the cases. But Gilani was being failed to do the same and charged under the allegations with contempt.

Calling Court’s decision “unjustified”, Gilani has appealed against its order to charge him. Gilani’s lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan said, he had submitted more than 50 arguments as part of the appeal, to show why a contempt charge against Gilani was not justified.

“The Supreme Court should stop all proceedings against the prime minister to hear my appeals,” he said.

The appeal filled by Gilani against Court’s order will be considered by a nine member panel of Supreme Court judges.
