According to latest news, the famous playback singer S. Janaki has rejected to accept the ‘Padma Bhushan’ award giver to her on the 64th Republic Day by the central government describing it ‘too late to come to her’.

While talking to media at a marriage function in Srikrishnapuram near Palakkad on Saturday, the singer said, “I am rejecting the Padma Bhushan award given by the Government. But I am not finding fault with any one for this late recognition. I have no grouse against the Government. I was happy that the Government has honored me.”

Further, Janaki said that she had sung thousands of songs in different languages such as Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi. She said large number of people loves her including Keralites.

She said, “I consider it as the highest award from the people of different parts of the country.”

Janaki said, “I should have been given the highest civilian award of `Bharat Ratna’ if the Government wanted to recognize my work. I am not interested in any other awards like the Padma awards.”

She added, “Government should show some more consideration to the artists from the Southern parts of the country in recognizing their talents and contributions.”

Meanwhile, the 78-years old singer had so far won four national awards for her songs in different languages.
