Sikkim flood 150x150 Sikkim’s Flash Floods & Landslides, 21 kill Breaking News, 21 people including Border Roads Organisation and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel have killed in a sudden horrible repeated floods and landslides due to heavy rains since September 19 in North Sikkim.

As per official reports, out of 21, 12 were Border Roads Organisation, 4 ITBP Jawans and two of their family members, still 8 persons, casual labourers are missing along with 5 ITBP Jawans.

Rescue operations are on active to be operated by Army, the National and State Disaster Response Force and the Air Force personnel at the affected area of Pegong, about 162 kilometres from Gangtok.

All the major routes linked to North Sikkim between Chungthang and Mangan have been seized, high alert has been called on the areas with blockage of NH31-A route.

It has been reported that normal life totally paralyzed in the remote areas as 900 villages are sinking under floods and 2,300 infected have taken shelter in 16 relief camps.

Past two weeks by heavy rain falls, nine landslides have to be erupted, resulted disruption in road communication in eastern district and hence people asked to shift safer places, Deputy Commissioner North district said.
