In yet a major blow in 2G spectrum allocation scam 2002, the special CBI court summoned Bharti Airtel CMD Sunil Mittal as an accused in the case.
Shockingly, Essar Group vice chairman Ravi Ruia and Asim Ghosh former MD of Hutchison Max Telecom Pvt Ltd are also summoned by court as accused and asked to appear before it on Apr 11.
Taking cognisance of the charge-sheet filed by the CBI, the court also summoned Shyamal Ghosh the former Telecom Secretary during the NDA regime asked to testify on the same date, reports said.
In his two page order, Special CBI Judge OP Saini said, “I have carefully gone through the copy of FIR, charge sheet, statement of witnesses and documents on record. On the perusal of the record, I am satisfied that there is enough incriminating material on record against the accused persons,” as per source report.
Earlier a chargesheet had filed by CBI only against India’s leading telecom companies Airtel and Vodafone alleging corruption and criminal conspiracy to grant of additional spectrum to the company in 2002 during the NDA government’s regime.
However, today court mentioned the name of company officials, slamming CBI’s probe just to ‘blame’ government officials.
Meanwhile, jolt is for CBI which defended to try its best to find out accused, but not find any evidence against officials . Now all accused companies will face charges of criminal conspiracy and violation of prevention of corruption act.
