Before three weeks, a pet project of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, NCTC – National Counter Terrorism Centre got the approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). And now NCTC will be going to operationalise from March 1.
The country’s specialized anti-terror body will have a Standing Council comprising chiefs of counter-terrorism body. It will have additional power to select ‘elite’ force like NSG for arresting and carry out searches against terrorists under Section 43 (A) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The NCTC Body which will locate in the Intelligence Bureau will be headed by directors who will be a part of the Standing Council. NCTC will have three parts of units that will be directed by a joint director of Intelligence Bureau. These are collection and dissemination of intelligence; analysis and carry out operations.
