As like law minister Salman Khurshid, the Union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma also remarks while he addressing a rally in Farrukhabad in UP on sub-quota for minorities.

Reacting on his remarks, The Election Commission on Saturday issued notice to Verma and called that prima facie it was a violation of the model code of conduct.

All such informed to EC by the video recordings of Verma’s speech at a rally that is now in hand of it as evidence.

In video recording of rally, Verma has been seeing to say, “Reservation for Muslims will be increased and if the EC wants, it can now issue a notice to me.” Read more

UP Polls 2012: 60% voting in second phase

Voting under the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly election has completed today with near about 60%, 2.7% less than as compared to voting in phase first that was around 62.7%. Polling began amid tight security on a dull note but picked up as the day advanced.

60% of 1.97 crore voters gave their vote to their favorable one for 59 constituencies across nine districts in eastern UP.

Eastern UP constitutions are considered to Muslim vote because like Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Gazipur have a significant presence of Muslim voters. The second phase of assembly election will test the potency of the 4.5 per cent backward minorities sub quota decision. Read more

On Monday while Congress Representative Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra addressing the bike rallies in Amethi, a controversy had broken out over the transfer of a poll official, an IAS officer.

As per report, the poll official, Pawan Sen allegedly stopped a motorcycle rally of Congress on the charge of violating the model code of conduct for using more vehicles against the permitted number of ten bikes.

And as per reaction by Congress, he has been transferred to Goa till February 19, when voting is over in Amethi. Read more

Raids on Ponty Chadha’s mall, home: Rs 4 crore jewellery and Rs 5 lakh cash seized

As per the biggest breaking of the day, the Income Tax department raided liquor king Ponty Chadha’s major locations allover in Delhi and UP.

The matter came into light just before that crucial UP Assemble election, which is scheduled in the next week.

Meanwhile, it is said in reports that during the raid process the IT department had managed to size around jewellery worth Rs 4 crore and Rs 50 lakh.

Further, the news agencies have said that IP department has been doing their jobs in 17 different locations of Ponty Chadha. Read more
