The International Cricket Council (ICC) Sunday announced details of the umpire and match referee appointments for the group stage of the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup beginning Sep 18 in Sri Lanka.
The match referees’ responsibilities throughout the tournament will be shared between Ranjan Madugalle and Jeff Crowe while Graeme La Brooy of the ICC Panel of Regional Referees, will be the match referee for Sep 21 and 23 matches in Pallekele before travelling to Galle to oversee the women’s World T20 group stage of the event which will take place from Sep 26 to Oct 1.
For Madugalle, who has overseen 46 T20Is to date, it will be his fourth successive World T20 after the 2007, 2009 and 2010 events in South Africa, England and the West Indies, while for Crowe, it will be his second appearance after he led the playing control team in the West Indies in 2010. Crowe has officiated in 30 T20Is to date, a statement said.
The on-field responsibilities will be shared by all the 12 umpires from the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, namely: Billy Bowden, Aleem Dar, Steve Davis, Kumar Dharmasena, Marais Erasmus, Ian Gould, Tony Hill, Richard Kettleborough, Nigel Llong, Asad Rauf, Simon Taufel and Rod Tucker, who will be joined by Bruce Oxenford of the International Panel of umpires.
The appointments have also been made for the men’s and women’s warm-up matches for the biennial event. The men’s warm-up matches will be staged from Sep 13 and will be played in Colombo while the women’s matches will be held Sep 22 and 23 at the same venue. (IANS)
