Vasundhra Raje, Rajasthan BJP Chief, to contest Assembly Polls

Vasundhra Raje, the former CM of BJP led Rajasthan has come back as the new President of party in Rajasthan, recent announcement made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh.

Raje’s appointment has made by replacing of Arun Chaturvedi who had been designating as Rajasthan BJP president since 2009.

Replacing Arunji, Raje as Chief will now contest for election campaign in the upcoming assembly elections in Rajasthan scheduled in December 2013.

Mr Singh said that the BJP has appointed Ms Raje as its chief ministerial candidate and the new president of the party’s Rajasthan unit.

The decision, welcomed by BJP high command members including Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, expected to be an effort to end dissidence in BJP state unit, sources added. The tenure of the 200-member current assembly in Rajasthan ends on December 31, 2013.

“I welcome the party’s decision. BJP is a family. We all have to be together. Everyone has a role to play. We will all strengthen the party in Rajasthan,” Ms Raje told reporters.

Ms Raje, the most popular figure having record of excellent administration during her tenure between 1998 and 2003 could prove a biggest and strongest candidature for BJP in the upcoming elections.

Party leader Gulab Chand Kataria is also appointed as the new leader of opposition in the state assembly, taking over from Raje who walk out from the post.
