In a revolutionary development after Italian ‘Milan files’ expose, Indian investigation agency the CBI came into action, is likely set to arrive in Italy today to probe irregularities in Rs 3,600 crore Defence deal.
As per official reports, CBI team including a senior investigating officer and a law officer would meet Italian prosecutors to share details of the VVIP Chopper Deal case to determine the alleged Indian beneficiaries of the kickbacks if found.
Now, a huge pressure would have on CBI and MoD officials who are likely together leave for Italy. It could be very difficult for CBI to ascertain the details of probe as the Italian court refusing to share details about the probe with India, reports said.
Meanwhile, officially all the VVIP Chopper case now shifted to Italy where trial proceedings are set to begin against Finmeccanica CEO Guiseppe Orsi, the main accused to set deal for beneficiated to a Britain-based subsidiary of Italian firm Finmeccanica.
Along with lawyer to understand the Italian law, the Defence Ministry is also sending a senior joint secretary to Italy “to gather as much evidence as possible”, as per media reports.
Still, there is no case has registered by CBI against the Italian firms as well as Finmeccania as it wants to get more evidence about the alleged kickbacks of the case. CBI cleared that it will probe if firms had been floated to route corruption in the AgustaWestland helicopter deal.
All eyes are now on CBI-MoD meet with Italian authorities and also Italian court hearing the case against Finmeccanica, which will evaluate the action of both nations together over the million dollars corruption helicopters deal scandal.
In India, apart of CAG auditing over the Italian Chopper Deal Scandal, now the CVC has sought a report from the Defence Ministryfor over the 12 AgustaWestland 101 choppers deal.
