West Indies Cricket Board recalls Chris Gayle into ODI squad

As per the latest cricket news, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has recently announced to recall the big hitter cricketer and the hero of IPL 2012 Chris Gayle into its one-day squad, marking an end to the 14-month long stand-off.

Earlier, the cricketer was ruled out of the national team by the WICB since he criticised the Board’s policies in a radio show.

Number of unsuccessful attempts was made for break in the past but finally the batsman made his way to the ODI squad. Gayle will now be a part of the ODI team in a three-match ODI series against England, starting on June 16.

Chris Gayle proved himself as one of the most destructive batsmen of the ongoing cricket world by strutting his stuff in the various Twenty20 leagues, specially the IPL 2012.

On Sunday, a high-level meeting involving the talismanic left-hander, two regional Prime Ministers and officials from the WICB finally broke the ice.

Cricketer Chris Gayle and his representative Michael Hall met with St. Vincent Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer, WICB President Julian Hunte, WICB director Elson Crick and the WICB’s legal officer Alanna Medford.

Later on, the Chairman of the selection panel, Clyde Butts welcomed Gayle’s comeback to the ODI squad.

The squad: Darren Sammy (capt.), Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Lendl Simmons, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Dwayne Smith, Andre Russell, Tino Best, Fidel Edwards, Ravi Rampaul and Sunil Narine.
