nasa 300x259 Indian teacher selected for US space programmeVandana Suryawanshi, native of Maharashtra, has been selected as the first international teacher for US Space Foundation’s elite 2012 Flight of Teacher Liaisons programme that will serve as advocates for space-themed education across the curriculum and will use Space Foundation-provided training and resources to further integrate space principles into the classroom.

Vandana is the teacher of Vidya Valley School who has been teaching biology, earth science and general science for 20 years.

She will join 19 other new Teacher Liaisons are being selected by a panel of representatives from the space industry and military for their active promotion of space and science education by the Space Foundation. Read more

Punes Symbiosis College 300x298 Punes Symbiosis College drop screening of Kashmir documentary after protestPune’s Symbiosis College had decided to screen the Kashmiri filmmaker Sanjay Kak’s documentary ‘Jashna-e-Azadi’ from February 3 to 5 in a session that means to showcase art, culture and literature of Kashmir, but this has postponed due to objection by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and other right-wing organizations.

They are protesting against the documentary ‘Jashna-e-Azadi’ at a three-day festival-cum-seminar ‘Voices of Kashmir’ as it shows the Indian armed forces fighting in Kashmir in bad light and the militants in the Valley as “heroes” that would once again fresh out the bad memories at the time of attacks on Kashmir and never acceptable.

Talking to Media, Shailendra Dalvi, the Joint Secretary of ABVP said, “The film ‘Jashn-e-Azadi’ which was to be screened at the festival shows how Indian Army is committing atrocities in the Valley. The militants are being depicted as heroes. That is the reason why the students’ union has opposed it.” Read more

MSDhoni 300x247 I will leave Captaincy, if selectors want: MS DhoniAfter the extremely bad performance in the test series against Australia, the captain of the Indian cricket team MS Dhoni have recently said in an interview that he is ready to leave captaincy if a suitable replacement is found to national selectors.

MS Dhoni was talking to media ahead of the T20 match against Australia, which is scheduled to play tomorrow. Dhoni said, “Captaincy is an additional responsibility that I enjoy. If the selectors feel the need to replace me then I will be happy to step aside.”

In the meantime, under MS Dhoni captaincy period, the Indian team has lost seven test matches abroad, while four of them by an innings and other three by huge margins of 196, 319 and 122 run respectively. Read more
