The father of Delhi braveheart, 23 –year-old gang-rape victim wants his daughter’s name to be made public so she could be an inspiration to other assaulted victims.
Damini, Nirbhaya’s Real name is Jyoti Singh Pandey.
“My daughter didn’t do anything wrong, she died while protecting herself,” the gangraped girl’s father said in an interview published on Britain’s Sunday People newspaper.
“I am proud of her. Revealing her name will give courage to other women who have survived these attacks. They will find strength from my daughter,” he further added.
According to reports, earlier victim’s father had called for new legislation on crimes against women to be named in honour of his daughter.
The physiotherapy student who murderously assaulted and gang raped in a bus of New Delhi died after two weeks on December 29 in a Singapore hospital, triggered street protests across India as well as an international outrage.
Five accused are lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, charged with her gangrape and murder among other offences of the Indian Penal Code.
They would have to produce in a New Delhi court on January 07 as a production warrant has been issued against them, while hearing of the sixth accused who said to be a minor, will be attempted by the Juvenile Justice Board.
