Major fire at Kolkata Market Complex, 12 killed

A massive fire broke out near a godown-cum-office six-storey market complex in central Kolkata’s Sealdah area in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Twelve people are reported to dead and many others sever serious burn injuries.

As per Police reports, the death toll is likely to rise with 30 to 40 victims, fearing to trap inside the market complex site which is near Calcutta University campus.

Fire brigades and rescuers are rushed to the site and have fought the blaze for nearly three hours to control it.

The blaze broke out at around 3.50 am out in Surya Sen market in Sealdah when the victims without any fear were sleeping, police said.

Meanwhile, all the injured rushed to the state-run NRS and Medical College hospitals for treatment, while there is no reports about the cause of the fire.

Investigations are on from side of police which is on search to trap the many of those workers who believe to stay there overnight.
