As per the latest reports, the filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia and actor Irrfan Khan have received some very positive replies from the people as well as Bollywood, and the latest name in the list is none other than the Big B, Amitabh Bachchan.
In an interview the superstar Amitabh Bachchan said that the film is an inspiring and fitting tribute to unsung heroes and truly a biopic.
Meanwhile, the story of Paan Singh Tomar tells the tale of the ex-national steeplechase champion-turned-bandit. The film was released allover on this Friday and the lead role is played by talented actor Irrfan Khan.
In the meantime, the Big B posted on his bigb.bigadda.com blog, “A fulfilling day! Saw an inspiring film, Paan Singh Tomar directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and enacted by a whole cast of fresh and very talented players, led by that incredible performer Irrfan. Such restraint in direction and performance, but such an impression on the nature of the subject. A biopic true to life and detail.”
The actor further writes, “..this is a true story, of a man from Madhya Pradesh…The tribute to the unsung hero, lists various prominent sportsmen who brought glory on International platforms for the country, but died penniless. Some even having to sell off their gold medal to survive. Such a moving tale.”
Paan Singh Tomar is a complete paisa vasool film. The fusion of two genres-the sports film and the dacoit drama-is done with such confident ingenuity that we hardly realize when one ends, the other begins.
While talking to media, about his film, actor Irrfan Khan said, “No one gave a damn about me when I won medals for the country. Today when I’m a baaghi(rebel) everyone wants to know about Paan Singh Tomar.”
Further, Amitabh said, “A wonderful tribute to the many unsung sports heroes of the nation, who contribute so much for the Motherland both within and and on International platforms, yet are left in penury to pass away, unnoticed, uncared for.”
Big B also urged the government to support sportspersons.
