As per latest political news, former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma, who earlier quits NCP after he lost in the presidential elections against the UPA candidate, launched his National People’s Party (NPP) on Saturday and joined the opposition NDA.
However, his daughter Agatha Sangma will remain in NCP “for the time being on technical grounds.
Talking to media, P A Sangma said, “Agatha would fight the next elections as an NPP candidate.” She is an NCP MP from Meghalaya.
It is said that P A Sangma will be NPP President and Arvind Netam will be the working president.
Sangma said, “The NPP would contest the next Assembly elections in Meghalaya and field its candidates from at least 46-48 seats.”
P A Sangma said that his new party will be part of NDA. Earlier, P A Sangma had talks with with BJP President Nitin Gadkari and Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and met NDA working chairperson L K Advani on Friday.
The BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Sangma met Advani yesterday and expressed desire to join the alliance. NPP becoming a part of NDA will strengthen the coalition, particularly in the Northeast.”
Earlier, Sangma, who was also one of the founders of NCP, said during the launch of NPP, that his party has been active for long as a recognized party from Manipur.
