According to latest news, a special team of Punjab police, posted with excise and taxation department, has seized 2.4 kg gold ornaments from a person who is from Uttar Pradesh.
It is said that the person was trying to supply the gold ornaments to jewelers in Patiala without paying required taxes and is likely to face 50% penalty for tax evasion.
Police said that the arrested person is ‘Ram Pal, and they recovered gold worth Rs 71 lakh from his Maruti Swift car. Now, the accused told media that he has supplied gold worth Rs 8-10 crore to Patiala jewelers in the past nine months without paying required taxes.
Talking to media, commandant of 1st IRB, Mandeep Sidhu said, “He has been supplying gold ornaments to many jewelers of Patiala area for the last around nine months. The total value of tax-evaded gold may be around Rs 10 crore. We have informed the excise and taxation department.”
Police said they had received a tip-off about the activities of Ram Pal, and since they were trying to catch him and today he was caught red-handed.
