Rats bits patient in Govt. Hospital at Jodhpur

In a government hospital while hospital staff slept, rats have injured a 70-year-old paralyzed man who was on ventilator in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital being allegedly nibbled on his ears, nose, lips and cheeks.

The hospital sources revealed a report; the paralyzed man was found seriously injured yesterday morning by his family members at the Mathura Das Mathur hospital with his ears, lips, nose bitten allegedly by rats. The man was unable to move due to paralysis when the incident took place early.

However the order of investigation has been issued to the authorities at the government hospital. The staff confirmed that the incident was brought to their notice by a patient’s attendant.

A doctor in the hospital explained, “The hospital staff – from doctors to security guards – goes to sleep before 11 pm, leaving the patients on their own.”
He said the man was found seriously injured Tuesday morning by his family members.

Superintendent of Mathura Das Mathur government hospital, Dr Arvind Mathur said a statement, “We have constituted a three-member committee today to look into the matter and ascertain the causes of the injuries the man received. Anything conclusive would be said once the inquiry is over.”

Speaking about arrangements for safety, Dr Surendra, Deputy Superintendent of the hospital defined, “The hospital compound is big and has several holes through which sometimes rats move in, but we have arrangements for pesticide and rodent control.”

As per Dr. Surendra, the nursing staff on duty was alert and taking care of the patients when the alleged incident occurred.

Talking to Media Dr. Arvind Mathur defended, “We have set up a three-member committee to look into the case. The panel has been asked to give us a report at the earliest. They started their investigations today (Wednesday) and we hope to have a report by evening or tomorrow (Thursday) morning.”

Meanwhile the authorities would look into the matter seriously to investigating the whole incident that whether the patient was really bit by the rats or not.
