Suzuki recalls over one lakh Swifts worldwide, Indian market unaffected

Maruti Suzuki India [MSI], the biggest car manufacturer of India, has recently announced that its working is not affected by the so-called global recall of over one lakh Swift compact cars by its Japanese parent Suzuki.

While talking to media in national capital, an official from MSI said, “The Swift cars made and sold in India by Maruti Suzuki are not impacted by this recall.”

Earlier, reports have said that the Suzuki Motor Corp [SMC] had decided to recall more than 109,000 units of hatchback Swift allover the world to repair a defect that may cause petrol leakage.

Replying to this, an official from SMC said, media has reported half of the recalls will take place in Japan.

He said, “The cars to be recalled were produced between September, 2010 and April, 2012.”

The company spokesperson added that from the total recall cars around 55,146 units were sold in the domestic market and 53,801 units were exported to various countries like Australia, Mexico and European nations.

In a statement issued to media by the Suzuki, “An inadequate connection on the rubber fuel filler hose may cause petrol leakage and four such cases have been reported in Japan, but they did not lead to any accidents.”

The Suzuki spokesperson said, “There have been no reports of such defects abroad.”

However, the company has unveiled a new Swift in 2011 in India and other international markets. The earlier model of Swift was produced at seven plants allover the world and was sold in more than 100 nations.

In India too, Maruti Suzuki India had launched the new version of the Swift at an attractive price starting from Rs 4.22 lakh to Rs 6.38 lakh in the highly competitive premium compact car segment.

Manufactured with all new looks, MSI and its suppliers had invested around Rs 550 crore on the new car. The Swift model of the company has been very demanding since the launch of 2005.
